Pierrefonds Airport (FMEP) on the southwest coast of Réunion is a perfect destination for VFR pilots and helicopter operations, offering a dynamic and visually rich flying environment. In contrast to Roland Garros Airport (FMEE) on the opposite side of the island, FMEP provides a more local and hands-on experience, with a steady flow of ultralight and helicopter traffic. Pilots should maintain excellent situational awareness, as mixed traffic and low-level operations are common throughout the area. The surrounding terrain, with its dramatic cliffs, valleys, and volcanic peaks, makes every departure and approach a scenic challenge, especially when following the coastline or exploring the island’s interior.
