The airport features a long runway capable of handling heavy long-haul traffic, but strong trade winds and frequent crosswinds make approaches demanding.
Surrounded by flat, arid terrain and the open ocean, pilots are often exposed to turbulence and wind shear on final.
Clear skies and intense sunlight are common, offering excellent visibility but little margin for complacency during landing.
